If you retire after 40 years in the ski business, what next?
Well... in our case the next phase was to buy the family cherry farm, which sits atop one of the highest ridge tops in Benzie County. We then pulled out the old trees and planted a vineyard. We said we'd never go into another weather dependent business, but here we are - growing grapes, enjoying the changing seasons, and spending lots of time communing with the grape vines.
So much for
Michael & Nancy's retirement!
Our vineyard overlooks Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the Crystal Lake Valley. With the help of our incredible family & friends, we harvest 2.5 acres of Chardonnay grapes and 2.5 acres of Blaufrankisch. Five different wines were made from our 2018 harvest - a Blaufrankisch Rosé, a Blaufrankisch red, A Murmur white blend, and 2 other yet-to-be released whites.
The grapes from the 2019 harvest are safely tucked away at the winery with wine release dates anticipated sometime next year.
Our grapes go exclusively to
Left Foot Charley Urban Winery
in Traverse City. This winery, under the direction of its award winning Wine Sherpa, Bryan Ulbrich, works with a small collection of northern Michigan vineyards, from which they source their grapes. We are privileged to be one of Left Foot Charley's growers. The 2018 vintage wines that have been released for sale are now available from
Left Foot Charley,
It would never happen without the incredible help of family & friends.
It's in the blood. The farm has been in the family since the late 1800s.

Eden Hill Vines is a MAEAP verified farm.
MAEAP is a voluntary State of Michigan program that recognizes and verifies farmers who are top stewards of their land. We are proud that Eden Hill Vines has earned both the Farmstead System and the Cropping System verification.
Murmur is a tribute to the compatibility of some of our region's iconic white grapes. The 2018 is a blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois & Chardonnay. The Chardonnay grapes in this blend are from our vineyard,
Eden Hill Vines.
Rosé happens when the skins of the red grapes are in contact with the juice only for only a short time - until the color is perfect. Following fermentation, this Rosé was aged in stainless steel. The result is a delightfully dry, but fruity wine. Blaufränkisch is an Austrian grape variety with a spicy delicate taste that grows well in Northern Michigan.
This 2018 vintage is blend of Blaufrankisch, with 63% of the grapes coming from our Eden Hill Vines vineyard. We have high expectations for this one!
